Awards and recognition
Safe driving and good service are recognized by York Region and rewarded inside the company, through programs open to every eligible employee.
From York Region
York Region Transit Roadeo
First place in 2014 and 2016. The Roadeo promotes safe, skilled driving among YRT and Viva operators. After a week of bus run-offs, tests and inspections, three finalists from each contractor compete on a 10-station obstacle course built to American Public Transportation Association guidelines. The winner goes on to the APTA Bus Roadeo the following year.
It’s a family day too, with a barbecue lunch and activities for kids.
Customer Service Appreciation Program (CSAP)
Each year York Region Transit holds an awards luncheon to recognize contractor employees who received compliments from riders, from Silver (3 to 4 compliments) and Gold (5 to 9) up to Double Platinum (20 to 29) and Diamond (30 or more). Awards also go to the contractor with the fewest accidents and the most improved accident record.
Over the years, Miller Transit has led York Region’s contractors in passenger compliments.
Our own programs
Three programs reward the safe, dependable work that riders count on.
Safe Driving Awards
Alongside the Annual Safe Driving Award, operators are recognized at each milestone of accident-free driving: 5, 10, 15 years and beyond. Each receives a letter of acknowledgment, a certificate of excellence, a custom Miller Transit Safe Driving pin engraved with their milestone year, and a gift of their choice.
Take Two
Full- and part-time hourly employees earn $100 for each quarter they meet the program’s criteria, up to $400 a year. In a quarter, that means working at least 75% of the eligible period, no preventable accidents or incidents, no lost-time injuries, no more than two unexcused absences or late reports, no written rule violations, and attending all mandatory meetings.
New hires join at the start of the next three-month cycle after their probation.
Honour Roll
Employees who show excellence all year earn a place on the Honour Roll and a gift card. The criteria: no more than three unexcused absences, no late reports, no preventable accidents, incidents or onboard injuries, no substantiated complaints, no random check violations, and no missed mandatory training.
